Recessed light was developed way back in the early 40’s. They were crude and did not appear very attractive. Today, however, they are of superior quality and come in various shapes and sizes. Recessed light is also commonly known as down light and is installed in a hollow space in the ceiling of a house. When illuminated, they concentrate in sending the light in a downward stream and look like a spot light.
There are two parts to a recessed light fixture – trim and housing. The trim is the visible section of the light whereas the housing is the fixture holds the lamp and is installed inside the ceiling. Two types of bulbs are used for recessed lights – direct and diffused lamps. The direct light fixtures contain reflectors and control the flow of the light. They are best used for artwork displayed on the walls. The diffused light fixture distributes the light throughout the lamp and is indirect.
While installing these fixtures one must bear in mind the following to make your home economical and safe.
- No of fixtures needed in the entire house, which depends on room size and the placement of the light fixtures. Recessed light fixtures should be installed at a distance of approximately 2-4 feet.
- The size of the trim depends entirely on the individual, the size of the room, the height of the ceiling and how much light is required.
Recessed ceiling light is the most important fixtures in the house. They can be defined as light that comes from the ceiling and are in a broad range of fixtures e.g. a chandelier, pendants or flush mounted lights, all hanging from the ceiling. These fixtures are designed in such a way that they illuminate the entire room evenly.
The best and most exquisite and expensive ceiling light is the chandelier. These come in various shapes and sizes and in a wide range. Some are very basic and some multipurpose. They are made in material such as wrought iron, brass, crystal etc. They range from a three light chandelier to a three tier chandelier. The right chandelier in the right place adds light and beauty to the home. They should hang at least nine feet from the floor.
Other ceiling lights are the flush and semi flush fixtures. These fixtures depend on the height of the ceiling in the house. If the ceiling is high, use a semi flush fixture as they would hang 1-3 feet from the ceiling thus radiating light evenly. But, if your ceiling is not more than eight feet, one should settle for a flush mount fitting. These two categories of light are the best for ceiling light.
All recessed light fixtures light the house evenly, unlike a bulb. It eventually looks clean and beautiful.
